Staff
Here at Spout Springs Church we have a very diverse staff. The pastors and staff personnel come from a wide variety of church backgrounds. Click on any of the names below to learn more about the pastors and staff of Spout Springs Church.
Steve Davis was halfway to an electrical engineering degree—and still considering a career in stand-up comedy—when God interrupted his life. In a six-month span, Steve transferred from a major state university to a small, Christian college, and began studying to become a pastor.
Twenty-some years later, he’s worked for two of the world’s largest corporations, pastored in three states, and planted a church near Philadelphia. And he’s pretty much given up on the stand-up comedy thing.
In 1989, against her own better judgment, Kim accepted Steve’s marriage proposal. They now have three daughters Nicole, Sierra, and Dominique, four dogs, and a shared passion to help people become all that God designed them to be.
Steve’s speaking style is energetic, down-to-earth, practical—and occasionally shows signs of the stand-up comic that wasn’t to be. And he’s still excited that God chose to interrupt his life.
Barry was working on a business management degree with hopes of opening his own comic book shop when God called him to the ministry. Though shocked that God would call an comic-reading nerd to ministry, he transferred to Toccoa Falls College and graduated with a degree in Christian Education.
Since graduation Barry has been a youth pastor in Florida and the senior pastor of a local church. He joined the staff of Spout Springs in August of 2010. He and his wife Angie live in Spout Springs with their two girls Elyse and Claire.
During his time off pastor Barry enjoys reading, movies and woodworking. And yes, he still reads comics.
Jose is originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado. He moved all the way down to Texas where he attended Southwestern Assemblies Of God University (say that fast ten times) where he was majoring in counseling/psychology. During his time there he played in numerous bands and worship events but never really thought about leading worship himself. He met his beautiful wife Cristina, got married, and moved back to Colorado.
Shortly after moving Jose became the part-time Worship Arts Pastor at GrassROOTS church for four years. During his time in Colorado God was making it very evident that He was calling Jose to full time ministry. During this time God used an episode of LA Ink (yes, the tattoo show) to say “Dude, I have called you, you need to be doing full time ministry.” God lead Jose and his family to Spout Springs Church and so Jose, Cristina, his son Seth and daughter Kayla packed up and moved to North Carolina. The rest is, as they say, history.
Harold Darner has been in the United States Army since 1988. Over the course of 24 years he has come to realize his calling to become a Chaplain in the Army. In addition, Harold has a calling to lead a Special Needs Ministry. Harold and his wife Lori have a special needs daughter Angel; it is through Angel’s life that God has been speaking to Harold and his family.
As Special Needs Pastor Harold assists the church family with outreach to families who have special communication needs. He also helps communicate the needs of our military families to the church.
Michelle and her husband John have enjoyed the military life together being stationed in South Carolina, Washington, and North Carolina for 7 years now. They have four amazingly wonderful children, J.T., Jeslyn, Jensen, and Justin.
Michelle and her family began attending Spout Springs Church when it was about a year old and meeting at Highland Elementary. Michelle got involved with the children’s ministry early on as a volunteer, once in a while on Sunday. She began looking and praying for a teaching job on Fort Bragg, where she was sure someone with her experience and qualifications (10 years & military spouse preference) would certainly get hired.
It wasn’t until the summer of 2011 that she realized why God wasn’t providing that teaching job. He was preparing the way for something better, a job opening was being created at Spout Springs Church. With that, Michelle became the Children’s Ministry Director in June 2011. Now she gets to combine her love of God with her teaching and is delighted every Sunday to see all the smiling children coming to learn about Jesus!
