Martha’s Place has many programs that are aimed toward community development,here is just one of them:
Martha’s Place is a Christian based non-profit community outreach center located in Western Harnett County. Martha’s Place will help put an end to a crisis 72,899 individuals are enduring in south central North Carolina. The crisis is hunger.
The food pantry at Martha’s Place has grown from providing food for 25 individuals, in five counties, to currently supplying provisions for over 600 individuals on a weekly bases.
Martha’s Place Food Pantry is located approximately 20 miles from the nearest population center. This will make Martha’s Place accessible to those who can not get to other sites due to distance.
Martha’s Place is a ministry of Solid Rock United Methodist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Gil Wise, Lead Pastor. The center is overseen by one full time and two part-time volunteer staff members and numerous other volunteers from local congregations as well as the community.
As a result of the efforts put forth by volunteers, numerous clients have moved from those being served to those serving and donating to others in need.

We often help out at this awesome outreach ministry in Sanford, NC. Many go individually from our church and some go in groups. Below is some background information on The Bread Basket
In 1990, a soup kitchen known as “The Bread Basket,” was established at ST. Thomas Episcopal Church, with the purpose of supplying a hot meal, Monday – Friday, to the hungry of Lee County. It received its start-up support from the Diocese’s Parish Grant Program, as well as gifts from St. Thomas’. The Bread Basket, established at St. Thomas’, became an ecumenical endeavor, relocating to a donated site and underwritten building. St. Thomas’ has a long history of identifying community needs and answering them with specially designed programs, underwritten by church funds. As the programs have developed, they have moved to larger, community-located and community-supported sites to continue serving increased populations.

Cameron Boys Camp is located in Cameron, NC. Located on 902 wooded acres, Cameron Boys Camp offers the freedom of being outdoors and the structure of small groups with constant, caring supervision. Boys live in groups of ten with three counselors, called “Chiefs.” With the help of their peers and Chiefs, campers learn discipline, positive behavior patterns and self-worth. The Christ-centered camp program provides children and their families an opportunity to work out challenges and problems in order to experience healing and reunification. Cameron Boys Camp is a licensed, non-public school.
Cameron Boys Camp is operated by Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina (www.bchfamily.org). Baptist Children’s Homes is a nonprofit child care organization providing residential programs and services in 18 statewide locations. Cameron Boys Camp and Camp Duncan for girls in Aberdeen (www.campduncannc.org) comprise Baptist Children’s Homes’ residential wilderness camping program for school-aged children.
